Blog So Hard

Every now and then (read always) I sit down in front of my computer to write a blog post and the inspiration simply isn't there.  I had someone ask me the other day, "Do you ever run out of things to write about?"

The answer is yes.

You can tell because I'm currently writing about the fact that I don't have anything to write about.  Blogging is so weird.  I even have a few posts queued up ready to roll.  I know what I want to say, but I just don't feel like putting it down on the proverbial paper.

I still love blogging but it can be so difficult sometimes.  I read all these other blogs and see how quickly they all get so popular.  I see that their audience constantly grows and everyone leaves adoring comments.  They get hundreds and thousands of likes on Instagram...Everyone wants to read what they have to say and to see the world through there eyes.

Sometimes I feel like I'm writing something for the sole reason that it will probably be popular with my audience.  And usually, those ones are.  Those posts get twice the traffic and I often times don't even really like them.  Maybe I don't really know my audience, or maybe I'm just not as good of a blogger as I think I am.

Oh well...

Pretty sure we all feel like this.

We've already talked about this, but I completely agree with you. I like all of your posts though!

You know, I read a blog post when I was trying to decide was about blogging for money without selling your soul. I can't remember whose blog it was on, though I probably have it pinned somewhere. And basically what I got out of her post was that she understood that if she was going to make money on her blog, sometimes she was going to have to write about things that she wouldn't have chosen, but that she decided that was okay, because she would still get to write what she wanted, just not *every* post. I think that's kind of the difference between a hobby blog and a money earning blog - a hobby blog can ALWAYS be what you want.

That said, I noticed right away that certain things I'm not particularly interested in ARE very popular. For example, I am NEVER EVER going to sew something. And it will not be blogged about on my blog no matter how pretty "sew your toddler a bustle" or "easy inexpensive window treatment" posts look. Just not going to happen. I think one of the reasons you and I clicked so well, blog-wise, is that maybe our styles are NOT always the most popular. And shooting to the top right away is kind of a combination of popularity and luck and timing. But it doesn't mean it won't happen. It just means it might be a little different than if you ALWAYS felt the urgent need to blog about how-to-save-tons-of-money-hand-sewing-the-cutest-curtains-ever-invented-and-where-you-can-get-the-trendiest-fabric-available-at-3/4-the-price-of-your-local-fabric-shop.

But, you have a very interesting story and you'll find the people who love hearing about it if that's what you choose to do! And if you have to throw in a "popular" post now and then to draw people in so they can decide whether to come back for more, it's up to you and only you how often you do something like that!

That's my novel for the day and I hope you don't mind. I am going back to school TODAY (I'd sigh, but I'm the teacher!) so I'm not sure how much I'll be around Blogsilvania. But you can bet I'll be stopping by!!!!!

Wow...that was practically a whole post all by itself! I hope you don't mind. I can be that way sometimes when I'm giving unsolicited advice. :-(

AND my first sentence of my would-be novel makes NO sense! Should of said, "You know, I read a blog post about blogging for money without selling your soul." So much simpler.

I think a lot of bloggers feel like this. I know I go in waves where I have tons of ideas and am inspired to write, and then moments where I wonder why I put so much time into my blog.
